Clonal Dysregulation of the Antibody Response to Tetanus-Toxoid After Bone Marrow Transplantation
نویسنده
چکیده
After bone marrow transplantation (BMT), a prolonged dysregulation of humoral immunity can be observed. In the present study, we investigated whether this is reflected in an abnormal production of specific antibodies (Ab) t o the Tcell-dependent recall antigen tetanus-toxoid (TT). The study group consisted of children receiving transplants of an unmodified allogeneic graft and of adults receiving either a Tcell-depleted allogeneic or an unmodified autologous BM graft. Findings were compared with those in healthy controls. In pediatric graft recipients, who were routinely revaccinated early after BMT, the Ab response was quantitatively superior to that in adult graft recipients who did not receive early revaccination. In the majority of graft recipients, the time period after vaccination required to reach the peak level of antibodies was prolonged and the number of responding TT-specific B-cell clones was markedly decreased in comparison with controls. In controls, a low frequency of dominant

Elimination of neoplastic B cell populations from autologous bone marrow grafts also removes normal B lymphocytes. This is potentially hazardous for the reconstitution of the immune system in patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy and total body irradiation followed by autologous marrow rescue. Five pediatric patients with B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in first remission undergoing such a r...

Background: Infection is now the most common cause of morbidity in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). There is lack of information regarding the specific antibody forma-tion in response to vaccines in young SLE patients. Objective: To determine the efficacy of anti-tetanus antibody response in young patients with SLE. Methods: Forty SLE pa-tients with mean age of 14.1 years (range: 7-21) and 6...

Tetanus is caused by the toxin secreted by Clostridium tetani. Due to the rapid infection with this bacterium, it is so important to investigate the tetanus immunity of people. Therefore, electrochemical biosensors, as one of the most effective tools in this regard, have demanded characteristics such as being fast, simple, cost-effective and portable. However, their detection sensitivity is not...

The results of this study show that donor-derived immunity can be detected and persists in long-term survivors with and without chronic graft-v-host disease (GVHD) after human marrow grafting. Seventy-one marrow recipients (60 long-term and 11 short-term survivors) were studied for the presence of specific serum IgG antibodies to tetanus toxoid (TT), and 46 marrow recipients (35 long-term and 1...
